| "A record fiend since his
teens, 'Dangerous' Dan Furtado was present at the creation of San Francisco's
"Live 105" (KITS-FM), one of the first alternative radio stations in America.
Weekend on-air jock, commercial production director, host of the new wave
show The Retro Mix - over the course of 12 years, Furtado held almost every
conceivable job at the station. These days, he's better known for spinning
'80s hits at clubs all over the San Francisco Bay Area.."
-VH1.com - "I Love the 80's" radio station. Well, I'm not currently playing "all over the Bay Area" (wish I had the time); 1984 keeps me busy enough right now. But I have played several places that I am proud to have been a part of... Started at the Stargaze nightclub in Fremont back in the mid 80's. That was one of the funnest clubs to hang out at back when this music was new. The Palladium in San Francisco was the "sister" club (same owner), so the videos that I remixed at Stargaze were duplicated and sent up to the Palladium. This was where I learned to "beat mix" records. Another great club at that time was One Step Beyond in Santa Clara (which I never worked at). One of my first radio gigs was at The Quake in SF. I was an intern there. I assisted OZ and Big Rick Stuart. 2 years later I started at Live 105 as an intern and worked my way up to Commercial Production Director and weekend DJ. After I left Live 105 in 1998, I worked on a new project called "Sonicnet.com", an internet radio site that started out life as "Imagineradio.com", but was bought by MTV (Viacom). I produced station ID's and created the 80's station "Retrograde". That was later renamed "I love the 80's" when VH-1 did the series of the same name. Over the years I've played at many clubs, but the only two that I really care to mention right now are The Stud in San Francisco ("8o Something" and "Retrograde" 1994 - 2000) and The Usual in San Jose from 1998 until 2001. These days you can find me at 1984 every Thursday, the Bar on Castro for Manic Mondays (80's and 80¢ well drinks), The new monthly party at the Cat Club - Temptation, and occasionally guesting at monthly clubs like Pop Roxx (DNA Lounge), Club Gossip (Cat Club), Strangelove (The Cat Club), and others. My favorite 80's bands... New Order, Depeche Mode, Blondie, and anything produced by Georgio Moroder (Godfather of electro music). When I finally get sick of this music, I'll stop playing it - but that just hasn't happened yet... -Dan PS - Vinyl rules! Add me on MySpace:
