1984 opened on Thursday August 13th, 1998. This was the very first flyer.
Flyer by Gus and Matt.

Original Line-up for 1984 was Rich Laxamana playing Old-School
and Electrofunk 80's in the Back Room, while Dangerous Dan
(from Live 105, the Stud Bar and The Usual in SJ) played Modern Rock styled
80's in the Front Room. This line up lasted one week. Turnout for the first night was around 100 people.

By the next week, Dan was moved to the back room, while Matt (from Terminator and Bondage A Go GO at the Trocadero,
and at the time, co-owner of the Cat Club), along with Mollie "The Melting Girl" (Terminator and Death Guild) took over the front.

After a few weeks, it was decided to add another DJ to the mix.
Longtime San Francisco DJ Brian Raffi (DNA and the I-Beam) was added to the front room, while
Mollie moved to the back room to DJ with Dan. This line up worked well
for several months. It added variety to the mix giving 1984 something for everyone.

1984 was slow to really take off. It wasn't until one Thursday night in December that two members of Depeche Mode
(Martin Gore and Andrew Fletcher) dropped in to hang out for a couple hours. They were on their US tour
for "The Singles 86>98" (Ultra was released the year before). 1984 has been very busy ever since!
